Le temple Girimsa est situé sur le mont Hamwolsan à Yangbuk-myeon, Gyeongju. Le temple a été construit durant l’ère Silla et, avec 16 bâtiments, il est le second temple le plus large après Bulguksa.
La légende dit que le temple était originellement construit par le Vénérable Gwang-yu, un sage indien, au début de la dynastie Silla. On rapporte qu’au début le temple se serait appelé « Imjeongsa » mais plus tard il a été renommé « Girimsa » après avoir été complètement rénové par le moine Wonhyo. La date de construction du temple reste, cependant, incertaine.
Girimsa est divisé en deux grandes zones. La première zone autour du bâtiment Daejeokgwangjeon où la statue de Birojanabul est conservée. La seconde est la zone autour du majestueux figuier sacré de 500 ans (Bo tree) et abrite une pagode de bois, le musée Seongbo et les bâtiments Samsingak, Mangbujeon et Gwaneumjeon. Le bâtiment Daejeokgwangjeon a été d’abord construit durant le règne de la reine Seondeok puis a été reconstruit 6 fois depuis sa création. Il est simple mais l’architecture majestueuse est caractérisée par baeheullim (larges colonnes) et un toit à pignon d’un niveau Dapoyangsik (style Dapo).
Girimsa est célèbre pour l’Ojongsu, l’eau dont on dit qu’elle a cinq goûts différents. Elle est composée de gamrosu, qui est le meilleur pour faire le thé, de hwajeongsu qui est supposé réconforter les buveurs, de janggunsu qui renforce le corps, de myeongansu qui donne une vision claire, ainsi que du otaksu dont on dit qu’elle scintille avec tant d’éclats qu’elle attire les oiseaux dans le ciel.
Durant la colonisation japonaise, la source de janggunsu, qui signifie littéralement « eau du général », aurait été bloqué par les soldats japonais qui craignaient que l’eau ne donne la force aux Coréens de les défier. Sauf pour janggunsu, l’eau continue de couler de chaque source.
Sur le chemin du temple Girimsa, il y a le temple Golgulsa connu pour ses 12 grottes. Golgulsa est originellement un ermitage (monastère) de Girimsa. Après être devenu une institution indépendante, il est devenu un centre de pratique du Seonmudo en Corée. Le temple a pour but de promouvoir l’art du Seonmudo au niveau national et international.

This hanok (traditional Korean house) is located very near to Cheomseongdae Observatory. Its location in front of the Gyeongju Historic Areas allows guests to reach major sights in Gyeongju like Daereungwon Ancient Tomb Complex, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, and Hwangnidan-gil Street by foot. This hanok symbolizes the historicity of the city of Gyeongju in that during its construction a female skeleton and accessories made out of precious metals were excavated from the site. The accommodation’s name comes from the idiom “Muwijayeon (leaving nature as it is),” combining bamboo and pine trees with green grass, show its dedication to ideals of rest and philosophy.
There are five rooms in total, all ondol (under-the-floor heating system) rooms for two. Korean paper lining the walls and old-fashioned furniture speak to the ideal beauty of hanok. The raised floor space, which is attached to the “Munmu” room, is a great place to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. All rooms have modern bathrooms with shower facilities, and a complimentary breakfast is served in the cafe on site from 8:00 to 9:00 in the morning. The complex has abundant parking spaces for the guests.

Wadamjung in Cheonwon Village, Gyeongju is a modern traditional Korean guesthouse built in May 2017, with both the features of a traditional Korean house and modern facilities such as air conditioner and bathroom. According to a Korean myth, Gyerim Forest in Banwolseong Fortress, Gyeongju is the birthplace of Silla Kingdom founder Kim Alji (of Gyeongju Kim’s Clan) about two thousand years ago. Gyerimgung Hanok Pension is located 2 kilometers from Banwolseong Fortress and is named after the forest. Among them, the Garam, Gayeon, and Nuri Rooms are offered at 50,000 won for 2 persons during off-season so that visitors can enjoy staying in a traditional Korean house at more affordable prices. All rooms are equipped with a bathroom for better convenience and there is an individual thermostat all year round. Complimentary breakfast made of healthy convenience food is offered to all guests. The menu is composed of barley bread, fruit, coffee, juice, boiled egg, and biscuit, and is subject to change according to situation. What is good is that the breakfast can be delivered to the room if the delivery time is requested during breakfast time, which is from 8 to 9 AM.
