El lago Gyeongpo, cuyo nombre significa “claro como un espejo”, se halla ubicado a 6 km al nordeste de Gangneung. Conocido también con el nombre de lago Gunja, este gran estanque de agua se formó cuando la boca de la bahía fue cerrada por acumulación de arena y guijarros traídos por las corrientes marinas. Es, asimismo, un sitio de llegada para las aves migratorias. En realidad, solía ser un lago enorme con 12 km de perímetro, pero hoy en día se ha reducido en tamaño por la sedimentación de polvo y arena en sus orillas. El lago Gyeongpo es el escenario de la historia de Hwarang y reliquias culturales de los tiempos prehistóricos, pues en una isla de formaciones rocosas que se halla en su centro se erige un pequeño pabellón sobre el que resalta la presencia de un letrero que dice ‘Joam’, del que se cree, fue escrito por Song Si-Yeol. Además, hay una bonita leyenda que relata que sobre cielo del lago Gyeongpo salen cinco lunas: una que brilla en el cielo, que se refleja en las aguas del mar, otra en el lago, una más en una copa de vino y, sin lugar a dudas, otras dos que emiten sus brillantes luces desde los ojos de un enamorado. Este lago solía tener gran fama entre los pescadores por sus aguas cristalinas y puras, sin embargo, debido a la contaminación ambiental del hábitat, ha quedado prohibida la pesca.

Ojukheon es el nombre con el que denominaban a la residencia en la que vivió Shin Saimdang (1504-1551) y donde su hijo Yulgok (político y sabio del período Joseon) nació, y se la llamó de esta forma por estar rodeada de numerosas cañas de bambú negro. La misma fue edificada en los tiempos del 11mo. rey de Joseon, Jungjong (1506-1544), y es una de las edificaciones de madera más antiguas de Corea. Fue designada Tesoro en 1963 y ha sido mantenida por los descendientes a través de las generaciones. Dentro de Ojukheon se halla la Sala Conmemorativa de Yulgok, denominada Mongnyongsil, donde Yulgok vio las primeras luces del mundo; el mausoleo familiar llamado Munseongsa; y los portales de nombre Jagyeongmun, Sajumun, entre otras instalaciones. Asimismo, dentro de la residencia se halla el Eojegak, un pequeño recinto que fue construido para preservar la piedra de la tinta y el Gyeongmongnyogyeol (un libro escrito por Yi I, seudónimo del sabio maestro Yulgok, en 1577 para impartir sus enseñanzas a los que se iniciaban en las letras), recuerdos del maestro. Al lado de Ojukheon se encuentra el Museo Municipal de Gangneung, donde podrá observar reliquias que datan de la era prehistórica además de materiales históricos de diferentes épocas.
