Fortaleza Gwongeumseong del Monte Seoraksan (설악산 권금성)

La fortaleza Gwongeumseong es un sitio donde se hallan las ruinas de una fortaleza conocida también con los nombres de Seoraksanseong, Onggeumsanseong y Totoseong. La misma se ubica en las escarpadas laderas del monte Dolsan en el área de Sogongwon de Seoraksan. Se cree que fue levantada por Gojong (que reinó entre 1213 y 1259), el 23er Rey de la Dinastía Goryeo (918-1392). Se la denomina también fortaleza Gwonkim(geum)seong, puesto que según una leyenda esta fortaleza fue construida por los generales Gwon y Kim para evadir la guerra.

Hacia el lado izquierdo de Sogongwon, cruzando el puente Biryonggyo sobre un abismo, se abre paso un sendero que los llevará a la fortaleza Gwongeumseong, pero como trepar el empinado y rocoso trayecto (2,5 km) demanda un gran esfuerzo y tiempo (1 hora aprox.), se utiliza el teleférico para llegar a la misma. Este transporte fue instalado en 1971 por el Dr. Lee Gi-Seop y aún hoy en día sigue siendo usado por numerosos turistas. El horario de servicio es de 7 a.m. a 6 ó 6:30 p.m., con un intervalo de 7 minutos, y en la boletería solo se puede comprar billetes de ida y vuelta para el mismo día. En la cima de la meseta en que se erige la Fortaleza Gwongeumseong hay 80 sectores diferentes de rocas y los pilares Sillyodae y Bangnyeongdae, entre otros aspectos sobresalientes y desde allí podrá avistar el Mar del Este y la ciudad de Sokcho. Asimismo, hacia el oeste, podrá ver toda clase de rocas y piedras fantásticas que adornan el monte Seoraksan.
