La palabra "Mirinae" es una palabra pura coreana para designar a la Vía Láctea. El sitio contiene las tumbas de San Andreas Kim Daegeon, el primer santo católico de Corea; su madre Ursula; el obispo Ferréol, el tercer jefe de la parroquia Joseon que ordenó al sacerdote Kim; y Vincentius Lee Minsik que enterró el cuerpo de San Kim. Para ser seguro, este sitio sagrado es un santuario sereno y pacífico.

La razón por la que se llamó Mirinae es que los católicos coreanos llegaron a este lugar en secreto para evitar la persecución durante la última dinastía Joseon, y la luz de las lámparas procedentes de sus casas en el pueblo donde se asentaron se parecía a la luz de las estrellas de la Vía Láctea. El padre Kim fue ejecutado a la edad de 26 años y no se le permitió un funeral. Pero, 40 días después de la ejecución, Vincentius Lee Minsik fue capaz de robar el cuerpo de Kim con gran dificultad. Él lo llevó sobre su espalda enterrándolo eventualmente en Mirinae, desoyendo todas las voces que le decían que no lo hiciera. En el centro del sitio está una gran iglesia conmemorativa y el Camino de la Cruz detrás de ella tiene 15 esculturas de bronce que representan la Pasión de Jesús cuando es capturado por los soldados romanos, crucificado, su calvario y su entierro.

Kim Daegeon (1822-1846)
El primer sacerdote y santo católico de Corea. Fue elegido como becario por un sacerdote francés, y se unió al sacerdocio a la edad de 24 años. Kim regresó a Corea, pero fue capturado y ejecutado, muriendo como mártir. Fue bendecido por el papa romano Pío XI el 5 de julio de 1925, y se convirtió en un santo católico en la ceremonia de canonización llevada a cabo por el mismo Papa Juan Pablo II en Corea del Sur el 6 de mayo de 1984.
