Helios Motel is located in the northernmost part of the East Coast in Sokcho, Gangwon-do. The motel is named after the god and personification of the sun in Greek mythology because the place is well-known for the beautiful sunrise and sunset. The motel has clean rooms, and offers laundry services, which include washing(boiling) and drying the clothes. Right in front of the motel are Jangsahang Port, Yeongnangho Lake, and Seoraksan Mountain, which create a picturesque landscape. The motel is only 2km from downtown Sokcho and a short walk to Deungdae Beach and Jangsahang Port. A number of other popular tourist attractions such as Yeongnangho Portm Sokcho Lighthouse Observatory, and Yeonggeumjeong are within walking distance as well. The Sokcho Museum is a cultural experience center where visitors can learn about and experience Sokcho’s history, culture, and natural environment, covering from prehistoric times to modern times. It displays artifacts related to regional tradition and culture, the fishing village culture, and the culture of the displaced people who took refuge during the Korean War.

The museum is divided into four sections: Exhibition Hall 1, which introduces Sokcho’s natural environment and cultural characteristics; Exhibition Hall 2, displaying the aspects of a fishing village and life of the Korean War refugees; Exhibition Hall 3, which provides diverse cultural experiences for children; and the Balhae History Hall with materials and artifacts related to the ancient Balhae Kingdom. The museum also has a reproduction of Cheongho-dong Alley, where the Korean War refugees from North Korea settled adn lived, and Sokcho Station building that was demolished in 1978.

Chodangbonjeom (초당본점)

Chodangbonjeom is a bean curd restaurant that's been in business for over 50 years and is located on the way to Seoraksan National Park (about 7.9 km). Bean curd hot pot and soft bean curd are the signature dishes here. Unlike regular bean curds, soft bean curds are not pressed in a mold, thus have a smoother, more delicate texture. Bean curd hot pots made with bean curd, various vegetables, and sauce are available along with many other dishes, so visitors can order based on their preferences. This restaurant is also famous for its side dishes. Sokcho's famous stuffed squid (squid stuffed with various vegetables and glass noodles) and potato pancakes made with pan-fried mashed potatoes go well with the main dish. Spicy soft bean curd stew is recommended to those who like spicy food.

If you begin at Seorak-dong in Oeseorak, cross the Biryonggyo Bridge and pass by the Biryongpokpo Falls, you will reach Yukdampokpo Falls, which actually consist of six waterfalls and a pond.

Despite the fact that only a small amount of water actually flows in these waterfalls today, what is interesting, is how they came into existence: a slow-flowing stream of water eroded the rocks, creating dips and puddles at various levels, which later became a series of cascading waterfalls. The splendid scenery around the waterfalls is always a pleasing sight to the eyes of visitors.

The largest port in Yangyang area is also one of the Eight Sights of Yangyang, and along with Simgokhang Port of Gangneung and Chogokhang Port of Samcheok, said to be the three most beautiful ports in Gangwon-do. Indeed, its reputation can be seen in the picturesque view of the white and red lighthouse, breakwater, and the fishing boats docked at the port. Another point of interest at Namaehang Port is the Namaehang Skywalk Observatory. Located at the entrance to the breakwater, this observation point offers a breathtaking view of the Namaehang Port area and the East Sea. The island, where the skywalk is located, was called Yangyado Island during the Joseon period, and the site of this observation point used to have a beacon during the Joseon period. Namae Fishing Village Experience, a village that is fed by the Namaehang Port, offers fishing boat trips for visitors, along with hand fishing, rock crab catching, and stuffed squid making. Some of Namaehang Port’s major catches include squid, plaice, and flatfish. A line of restaurants specializing in raw fish slices allows visitors to enjoy the fresh catch right away.

Gwongeumseong Fortress is a stone castle from the Goryeo dynasty and is located 800 meters above sea level in Seoraksan National Park. From a distance, Gwongeumseong Fortress looks like a rising peak, while up close, the expansive stone floor and remnants of castle walls become visible. Visitors can access the fortress via hiking trails or by taking a cable car. From the fortress, visitors can enjoy the majestic view of Seoraksan Mountain and the blue waters of the East Sea.
