The rocky coastline along Hyeonbuk-myeon in Yangyang called Hajodae is one of the Eight Sights of Yangyang. The coastline boasts unique rock formations and rocky islets, creating a unique scenery along with the nearby pine forest. The name Hajodae originated from the surnames of Ha Ryun and Jo Jun, two late Goryeo-era officials who plotted to overthrow the dynasty and would eventually become one of the founding officials of Joseon. A pavilion, also named Hajodae Pavilion, can be found on top of the coastal cliff. Today’s pavilion is a restoration dating back to 1998, while the original was raised during the reign of King Jeongjong of the Joseon dynasty and underwent numerous renovations. The pavilion is a favorite scenic point for many visitors. An old pine tree standing upright on the rocky cliff was made famous for its appearance on the broadcasted screen for the national anthem of Korea. Following the decked walkways from the pavilion brings one to the white unmanned lighthouse, or the nearby Hajodae Trail and Observatory. Hajodae Beach can be found about 1 kilometer to the northwest of the area. Its relatively shallow depth, reaching no more than 1.5 meters, makes it ideal for families with small children.

Osaek Jujeongol Valley in Seoraksan Mountain is renowned for its vibrant autumn maple leaves. SamPal Hoetjip, situated on Gisamunhaebyeon Beach, specializes in jayeonsan modeumhoe (assorted sliced raw wild fish). Its extensive menu boasts a variety of dishes, ranging from saengseongui (grilled fish), twigim (deep-fried dish), chobap (sushi), salad, shrimp, sea pineapple, egg cockles, kimchijeon (kimchi pancake) to gamjajeon (potato pancake), accompanied by approximately 20 delectable and plentiful side dishes. Following the main course of hoe (sliced raw fish), they also provide a maeuntang (spicy fish stew). Adjacent to the restaurant, SamPal Park offers accommodation options with a stay package that includes dinner service featuring a jayeonsan special hoe course (sliced raw fish special course) and a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), along with a filling breakfast service.

38th Parallel Rest Stop (38선휴게소)

The rest stop is located at the 38th Parallel, symbolizing the division of Korea. Gisamunhaebyeon Beach, right above the rest stop, is the place where a commemorative plaque was placed after the 38th parallel was first crossed during the Korean War. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sea from the rest stop and learn about the history of the war at the exhibition center next to the rest stop.

Seoraksan Heullimgol Valley (설악산 흘림골)

Yangyang’s Heullimgol Valley, named for its cloud-like, foggy appearance due to the surrounding high mountains and deep valleys, offers a spectacular view and serves as the gateway to Deungseondae. This spot provides an expansive view of the southern side of Seoraksan Mountain. Notable sites near Heullimgol Valley include Yeosimpokpo Falls, Deungseondae, Deungseonpokpo Falls, Geumgangmun Gate, and Jujeongol Valley. Access to Heullimgol Valley is strictly limited to 5,000 visitors per day, with entry based on time reservations. Therefore, visitors must make a reservation through the Korea National Park Service's reservation system before visiting.

Baekchon Makguksu (백촌막국수)

Baekchon Makguksu is a one of the most well-known restaurant in Goseong for serving delicious makguksu (buckwheat noodles), a dish that defines Gangwon-do. Buckwheat noodles in Baekchon Makguksu are served with a dried pollack salad, which, for many regulars, is the thing that makes them come back for more. Baekchon Makguksu’s take on this dish combines the flavors of dongchimi (radish water kichmi) broth with Hamheung-style cold buckwheat noodles. Ingredients consist of dongchimi and buckwheat noodles, topped with dried pollack salad, sesame oil, vinegar, sugar, mustard, and seasoning to taste. The noodles themselves retain the fragrance and the texture of buckwheat quite well. Visitors who prefer their bowl to have a more subtle yet refreshing taste can control the amount of vinegar and seasoning to bring the soup’s flavors forward. Another popular dish here is suyuk (boiled pork slices). After enjoying a meal of makguksu, visitors are recommended to take a leisurely seaside stroll at the nearby Munamhaebyeon Beach.

On the Button is known for its view overlooking Munamhaebyeon Beach. The cafe’s facade features a window wall that brings the beach into view. The parking lot is located at the back of the cafe, so visitors won’t have to worry about cars blocking the view. With its chic interior and space, the cafe is also popular for photography. All beverages at On the Button are served in reusable cups. Lids are provided upon request. The second floor is a rooftop space. Children are prohibited from accessing the space due to safety reasons. The cafe serves a wide range of menu items, from Latte Verde to Summer Latte, Marron Latte, Cafe Americano, Latte, and Einspanner. Nearby tourist sites include Cheonhakjeong Pavilion, Baekdo Beach, and Gyoamri Beach.

Baekdohaebyeon Beach (백도해변)
