Neungganggyegok Valley (Eoreumgol Valley) is within the mountains near the Cheongpungho Lake. Located in a high area surrounded by mountains, the sun reaches the area far less than others. In fact, the name Eoreumgol Valley references how the lush forests and the area’s geographical features have made the summer here so cool that the ice (eoreum) is said to have been left frozen even in the x_height of summer. The water originating from Eoreumgol Valley flows into the Cheongpungho Lake through Neungganggyegok Valley.

Geumsusan Mountain, originally called Baegamsan Mountain, was renamed by noted Joseon-period scholar Yi Hwang (pen name Toegye) when he was the chief governor of Danyang County, saying its graceful features matched the fineness of silk embroidery. The mountain is beautiful throughout the year with bright foliage in fall and an ice cave that stays frozen until early April. The view from the summit of the mountain resembles a pregnant woman lying on her side, and there is a legend that women who pray for a son here will have their wish come true.

The Tutelary Forest is divided into two sections, each with different species of trees, by a brook in the middle. The area located to the left of the brook grows a variety of acervate deciduous broad-leaved trees, many of which are maple trees that paint the season of fall with gorgeous colors.

Yoseonjeong Pavilion is located in a valley with a clear stream water flowing below. Next to the pavilion is a large rock with the word Yoseonnam inscribed on it. During the Unified Silla period, there was a small hermitage where Yoseongjeong Pavilion stands today. The hermitage was frequented by monks Doyun and Jinghyo, who had founded Heungnyeongseonwon Temple on a foothill of Sajasan Mountain to teach the values and principles of Buddhism. Today, next to the pavilion is a small stone pagoda and a statue of seated Buddha.

Two hundred meters upstream from Dodamsambong Peaks is a large rainbow-shaped stone gate on the left side of the river. This oddly-shaped stone arch is called Seongmun, which means Stone Gate. Due to its fascinating scenery, Seongmunm is the second of Danyang’s Eight Scenic Beauties. To the left of the Stone Gate is a small cave. Inside the cave is Okdap (Stone Field), which is believed to have been cultivated by an old enchantress. The legend of Okdap says that an old enchantress who lived in heaven once came to the earth to get water and then dropped her binyeo (traditional Korean hairpin) near Seongmun. As she searched for her binyeo, she was extremely impressed by the beautiful views. Mesmerized, she left heaven and lived near Seongmun as an ordinary peasant, growing crops and expanding farmlands.

Dodamsambong Peaks refer to a trio of rocks that jut as islands in the upper Namhangang River. The trio is often considered one of the most beautiful tourist sites in Danyang. Indeed, many prominent characters from Korean history have sung its praise. Because it is located in the middle of the river, it can be seen from a distance, but a motorboat service allows visitors to get closer to the peaks. The ride takes about 10 minutes.
