Hanhwa Aqua Planet Yeosu is the second largest aquarium in Korea and the first to be built entirely aboveground. Opened in 2012 with the Yeosu World Expo, the aquarium is an environmentally friendly building, using solar power for most of its energy use. The Seomi Garden is a formal, natural European garden decorated with old stone walls and ponds of a terraced paddy field, overlooking the beautiful waters of Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park in the South Sea also known as the treasure islands, as well as various herbs and silver grasses growing on the hedges.
