Opened in 2002, Chuncheon National Museum was established to identify and promote the original form and characteristics of the regional culture of Gangwon-do. It consists of the Permanent Exhibition Hall, Brand Hall, Special Exhibition Hall, and Outdoor Exhibition space. The museum displays the artifacts based on Gangwon-do’s history and culture, ranging from prehistoric times to modern times, and holds a special exhibition with diverse themes. The main building of the museum, built in harmony with nature, was selected as the “Best Architecture of the Year” by the Korean Institute of Architects in 2003. In particular, the main building is known for the center hall equipped with a circular glass ceiling. The Museum Cafe is situated at this center hall where visitors take a rest while enjoying the sunlight through the ceiling. The Immersive Digital Cafe has been in service on the 2nd floor of the center hall since the end of 2020. It shows a beautiful and vivid video of the Eight Sights of Gwandong, Five Hundred Arhats at Changnyeongsa Temple Site, and other sites on its 28 m-wide screen. Its Children’s Museum was also newly opened in 2021 under the theme “Children & Nature.”

Chuncheon Romantic Market is Chuncheon’s representative regular market that opened in 1960. It connects to Chuncheon’s high street, Myeongdong. As the arcade is installed in the market passageway, people can conveniently use the market regardless of the weather and season. Selected as a cultural tourism-style market in 2010, the market was renamed Chuncheon Romantic Market and refurbished with signboards and alleys. Visitors can discover hidden mural paintings and sculptures in various alleys. The market is packed with stores selling hanbok (traditional Korean clothes), general clothes, miscellaneous goods, and various food ingredients, as well as restaurants specializing in noodles, blood sausage soup, Vietnamese rice noodles, and others. When the U.S. army resided in Chuncheon, the Yankee Market was formed to sell American goods, but is barely surviving these days. Chuncheon Romantic Market is not large in size, but it is adjacent to other attractions such as Chuncheon Myeongdong Street, Yungnim Pass, and Myeongdong Dakgalbi Alley of Chuncheon. In addition, it was also included in the list of “16 Traditional Markets for Tourists” by Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

Yukrimgogae was the street that connected Yurim Theater (now closed) and Chuncheon Jungang Market in the past, becoming an unofficial downtown during 1980s to the 1990s. After the new city project, the stores relocated to the new downtown, leaving the area empty. In 2015, the street was rejuvenated with Makgeolli Street and Youth Mall. The street is full of restaurants and stores that was renovated providing an analog-feel combined with a trendy style.
