The Mongchon Museum of History, located within Olympic Park, displays artifacts from the excavations of Mongchontoseong Fortress, such as earthen fortifications as well as other artifacts of the Baekje Kingdom period, offering a glimpse into Baekje culture. A model of a Baekje dugout hut site reveals ancient dwelling patterns. Also, the facility displays a perfectly preserved model of ancient houses and tombs, giving visitors the feel of traveling back to prehistoric ages.

Seoul Center for National Intangible Cultural Asset (서울국가무형문화재전수회관)

Created by the government to hand down traditions and preserve important, intangible cultural assets, the center supports cultural masters in the training of their pupils and their efforts to promote Korean traditional culture to the general public.

The center houses 8 groups that represent the music field. Serving not only as a training ground for those specializing in the arts, the center also seeks to reach out to the general public through regular programs and recitals. Musicians also participate in musical conferences, events and performances on a national and international level.

There are 12 craft groups at the center that are directed by craft masters who have been designated 'National Intangible Cultural Assets.' Craft groups host a number of training programs.

Other special features of the center include the 'Pungryu,' a 147-seat folk theatre; the 2 or 3 story 'Traditional Craft Hall' with an open-run exhibition hall and planned exhibition hall; a shop selling the works of the artists; a seminar room; a training room; and a practical training room.

A joint project of Yearimdang publishing company and PMC Production, the art hall is a mid-sized theater with 439 seats divided into two floors. Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street is one of Korea’s major shopping streets with customers ranging from teenagers to adults, since discount stores stocking sports wear, casual wear, shoes, men’s and ladies’ suits, and golf wear are all located on this street. Moreover, this is a great place to find deals on famous brands, at prices lower than at a department store. On some items you can get discounts of up to 70-80%.

Since most of the goods are stock from previous seasons, it might be better to purchase the more classic styles rather than the trendy fashions. In some cases, the goods might have been slightly crumpled or stained during the transfer from warehouse storage, but taking them to the dry-cleaners should fix most problems. However you should be careful when looking at the sewing quality, and check for missing buttons.

One more thing to bear in mind is the shopping season. Even discount stores have periods when stock runs low. The best time to shop is immediately after the stores in Rodeo Street restock their merchandise. This is done at about the same time as department stores.
