The Seoul Botanical Garden was created in Magok, the last remaining development site in Seoul, to introduce native plants and horticulture of 12 different cities from around the world and raise ecological awareness in the city. Seoul Botanic Park integrates a botanical garden and a public park, and the area is the size of 70 soccer fields. It serves as a bridgehead and lifelong education institution with the aim of spreading urban garden culture while staying true to its original role as a plant research conservation institution through expanding endangered wild plant habitats, researching the proliferation of species, and developing varieties. The botanical garden is divided into four spaces: Open Forest, Themed Garden, Lake Garden, and Wetland Garden. The main highlight is the Themed Garden that comprises the Botanic Center, Mogok Cultural Hall, and an outdoor themed garden.

Sareung Royal Tomb is the tomb of Queen Jeongsun (1440-1521), a consort to King Danjong. She was perhaps the most tragic royal woman of the Joseon dynasty.

In 1453, she was selected to be queen out of many candidates and actually became the queen two years later. However, when King Danjong was forced to abdicate from the throne in 1457 and was exiled to Yeongwol in Gangwon-do, Queen Jeongsun was deprived of her title as well.

After King Danjong died, she built a thatched-roof house outside Seoul’s Dongdaemun Gate and lived there for the rest of her life, continuing to mourn her husband. The tomb’s name, Sareung, came from the fact that she had missed her dead husband so much.

Unlike other royal tombs, Sareung looks very simple. Its size is relatively small.

Gwangmyeong Cave was developed in 1912 during the Japanese colonial period to exploit resources, including gold mines, and continued to be developed for industrial purposes after liberation. After the mine was closed in 1972, it was used as a salted seafood warehouse for about 40 years. Gwangmyeong City purchased the site, reorganized it, and made it available to the public. It is currently recognized as a modern industrial heritage site with high historical value, and is well known as a cave theme park in the metropolitan area. Along with the cave, colorful lights and sculptures create a spectacular sight. Aside from tasting and purchasing Korean wine at the Gwangmyeong Wine Cave, visitors can also see the largest media art piece in Korea at the Lascaux Exhibition Hall, enjoying a more diverse travel experience.
