In 1999, an excavation for cultural relics was carried out in the area of Geomdan. As a result of the excavation, various relics and remains from the Bronze Age and Old Stone Age to the Joseon period were found, leading to the opening of the Geomdan Prehistory Museum on November 27, 2008. The museum showcases the lifestyle of prehistoric times and offers hands-on programs.

Historical background: The Unyang-dong part of Modamsan Mountain where Gimpo Art Village is located is speculated to be the origin of the ancient country of Baekje. Seated before broad plains and Najincheon Stream, the art village also sits in front of Modamsan, the home of numerous Mahan tombs from which a 120-centimeter-long steel sword, crystal jade, and golden earrings, the oldest of its kind unearthed thus far, were once discovered. There have also been many discoveries of settlements from the New Stone Age and Bronze Age as well as dolmens from the Bronze Age so it is believed that a group with a powerful authority had been living in the Modamsan area since ancient times. In the Joseon period, the area became a part of Cheonhyeon-ri and Cheongsudong-ri, Seokhan-myeon. Modamsan is the home of the shrine and grave of Sim Ong, a military vassal from the early Joseon Dynasty who was a second-level meritorious vassal and had the positions of General Jeolchung and later Yeonguijeong, which was given after his death. Also located on the northern riverside of Hangang is Gambawi Rock where Jungbong Jo Heon, a civil vassal from the mid-Joseon period and leader of a righteous army, used to fish to soothe his patriotic sentiments.

Inwangsan Mountain (인왕산)

Inwangsan Mountain is a rocky mountain located to the northwestern side of Seoul. It stands 338m tall. The Seoul City Wall is built along its ridge, connecting to the Baegak Mountain Trail. From the summit, one can see the three mountains of Naksan Mountain, Namsan Mountain, and the Bugaksan Mountain surrounding the historical center of Hanyang, the historical name for Seoul in Joseon period, with the Gyeongbokgung Palace at the center. There are five hiking trails, all taking about two hours to complete. It takes about three hours if you want to visit all the peaks of the mountain.

Nuhadang is a traditional hanok with over 100 years of history. It is located in a quiet spot in Seochon, Jongno-gu, Seoul, where many scholars and artists have lived since Joseon times. Nuwa is a small, tastefully-renovated private hanok in the Seochon Village residential area to the west of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. It gets the light through a window wall in the living room, which contains a walnut table where guests can take tea, and a bathtub: weary travellers will feel better after taking a foot bath or half-body bath. High-quality tea and bath salts are provided. The sleeping space has an unusual round window, like a full moon, facing the bed, through which guests can see the top of Inwangsan Mountain as they fall asleep.
