Bupyeong Pungmul Festival started in 1997 to establish the identity and pride of Bupyeong as well as develop and promote the success of the traditional culture. The music played at the festival, which sometimes takes center stage, is called ”pungak,” and the instruments and decorations used are collectively known as “pungmul.” This vibrant festival, which is centered around the joyous theme of pungmul, takes place in the heart of Bupyeong. It is a community festival with active participation from local residents, offering a rich taste of local charm. The history of Bupyeong Haemultang Street began 30-40 years ago, when there were just three restaurants on the street. Over the years, the street gained a reputation for serving delicious haemultang (seafood stew), and there are now ten seafood restaurants on the street. Each restaurant offers a rich, yet distinctly different flavored seafood stew prepared with aromatic vegetables and fresh seafood purchased from the marketplace every morning. The Haemultang Street has become so popular that many people travel the long distance from Seoul just for a satisfying meal of seafood stew. The restaurants specialize in stew and steamed seafood dishes, but also continue to develop new fusion menus to please all taste buds.

Imagine raising awareness about ecology, the environment, and family through games and activities. The Siheung Gaetgol Festival is an excellent example of this concept. “Gaetgol” refers to the water channels flowing through tidal flats during low tide, home to various halophytes, wetland creatures, and over 60 species of birds, making it an ecological treasure trove. The festival features a wide range of exciting programs. The activities include the “Eco-orienteering Mission Game,” where participants wear “Family Run” T-shirts and explore the festival grounds, a salt playground on the salt pans, Gaetgol Metaverse Family Run, Gaetgol Test, and Family Speed Quiz. Families completing the missions receive a completion medal from the festival.
