La rue des libraires de Bosu-dong est unique en Corée. Elle a vu le jour après l'indépendance de la Corée (15 août) en tant que zone résidentielle en lieu et place du marché Gukje. Les habitants du quartier ont commencé à vendre les livres japonais laissés sur place avant que le quartier ne soit occupé par les vendeurs de livres de la ville au fur à et à mesure de la privatisation du quartier.
Lorsque Busan était devenue la capitale provisoire de Corée durant la guerre de Corée, des réfugiés étaient aussi venus dans le quartier pour vendre des livres pour trouver de quoi vivre. Avec le temps, les professeurs et les étudiants ont commencé à investir le lieu pour acheter des livres, contribuant à la renommée du quartier. Le quartier était notamment prisé pour les amateurs de livres rares.
