La plage de Gyeongpo est un banc de sable situé entre le lac Gyeongpoho et l’océan, la plage s’étend sur 6 km. Il s'agit d'une attraction touristique très bien connue parmi les Coréens, qui permet d'apprécier l’harmonie entre la nature et les vestiges culturels. La plage de Gyeongpo est aussi connue pour ses levers de soleil. On trouve aussi d’autres attractions dans les environs, comme la forêt de pins (à 4km) et les rosiers sauvages. Les personnes qui aiment faire de la pêche dans l’océan ont l’occasion de prendre un bateau vers l’allée rocheuse qui part de la plage. De nombreux touristes viennent sur place pour visiter les anciens bâtiments au milieu de ce paysage naturel magnifique comme le pavillon Ojukheon. Au printemps, le lieu abrite un festival des cerisiers japonais, organisé à l’entrée de la plage Gyeongpo, alors qu'en été le lieu abrite un festival de l'été et d’autres événements culturels très variés (événement littéraire traditionnel, festival de danse de la plage, etc.)

Chaque année au 31 décembre la ville de Gangneung organise son festival annuel pour célébrer le lever du soleil du 1er janvier et se souhaiter la bonne année dans un magnifique environnement.
