Le Parc Provincial du Mt. Maïsan est situé dans la région Jinan-gun, de la province du Jeollabuk-do. Durant la Dynastie Silla, on l’appelait Seodasan, durant la Dynastie Goryo, Yongchulsan, et finalement, il a pris le nom de Maïsan durant la Dynastie Joseon. Le nom du Mt. Maïsan change suivant les saisons. Au printemps, on l’appelle Dotdaebong, en été, Yonggakbong, en automne, Maïbong, et en hiver, Munpilbong. Il y a un mythe qui a est passé de générations en générations à propos du Mt. Maïsan. Deux dieux descendaient du Ciel, ils ont eu un enfant qui ont vévu sur la terre pendant un certain temps, mais comme ils retournaient au Ciel, une femme du village les a aperçus monter, et les a pris au piège sur la Terre. Et ils sont ainsi devenus la montagne rocheuse. Même aujourd’hui, vous pouvez voir le pic du père et le pic de l’enfant, ainsi que le pic de la mère qui regarde de l’autre côté. Les pagodes au sommet du Mt. Maïsan ont été construites à partir de native roches et les sommets de ces roches sont aussi pointus que des clous. Sur le côté sud de la montagne, on dit qu’il y avait plus de 120 de ces pagodes, mais seulement 80 environ existent de nos jours. Il y a encore quelque chose d’autre de très mystérieux à propos de ces pagodes. Peu importe comment mauvais le temps est, ou même pendant des tempêtes, elles ne croûlent ni ne tombent jamais. Une autre chose plus intéressante encore sur le Mt. Maïsan, ce sont ses glaçons. Si vous mettez de l'eau dans un bol pendant l'hiver, l’eau gèle sous la forme d’un pôle qui s’allonge en direction du ciel. Personne ne sait pourquoi ou comment cela arrive, mais cela rend le Mt. Maïsan encore beaucoup plus mystérieux et intéressant à visiter
