Maeng Sa-seong est une figure emblématique de Cheonbaek-ri et a été premier ministre durant les premières années de la dynastie Joseon. Sa maison est la plus ancienne résidence privée de Corée, et c’était à l’origine celle du général Choi Yeong, avant qu’il ne la transmette à l’époux de sa petite fille, Maeng Sa-seong. Cette maison simple abrite dans sa cour deux ginkos âgés de 600 ans. C’est pourquoi elle s’appelle « Haengdan », ce qui signfie que Confucius a enseigné au sommet d’un ginko, symbolisant la vocation pédagogique de l’endroit. C’est pour cette raison que l’on suppose que Maeng Sa-seong a intentionnellement planté des ginkos dans la cour et enseigné à de jeunes lettrés. Les deux arbres ginkos offrent une ombre rafraîchissante, et donnent cinq sacs de noix de ginko chaque année.
