Gangneung Ojuk Hanok Village in Gangneung, Gangwon-do was created to promote hanok architecture and to spread the ideas of Joseon scholar Yulgok Yi I; close by is Ojukheon House, the home of Yi I and his equally famous mother Shin Saimdang. Many types of accomodation are offered including guestrooms, standalone houses, duplex rooms, and one room equipped with a bed and facilities for disabled visitors. There is even a small lecture hall for the use of overnight guests. Gyeongpo Lake and Gangneung Olympic Park (where PyeongChang Winter Olympics were held) are also nearby.

Gyeongpo Provincial Park was officially opened on June 26, 1982. It houses many cultural assets and memorial sites centered around Gyeongpodae Pavilion, Gyeongpoho Lake, and Gyeongpo Beach. One of the eight scenic spots in Gwandong (old name of Gangwon-do), Gyeongpodae is famous for viewing the moon, as well as fishing at Gyeongpoho Lake. However, fishing is now prohibited due to the lake being designated as a natural protection area.

Gyeongpo Beach is thought to be the best beach on the East Coast. The crystal waters of Gyeongpo Beach, elegant Gyeongpoho Lake, Gyeongpodae Pavilion, Banghae Pavilion, Hohae Pavilion, Gyeongho Pavilion, and Gyeongyangsa Temple make Gyeongpo Provincial Park a great vacation attraction year round. Known as one of the most scenic locations in Gangwon-do, visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms in the spring, swimming in the summer, and deep-sea fishing and walking on the beach in the winter.

Ojukheon House was where Yi I (penname Yulgok; scholar and politician of the Joseon Period) was born. It was built during the early Joseon dynasty and was designated as a Treasure in 1963 for its historical value.

Inside the house is Mongryongsil, where Yi I was born. The household complex also features the household shrine (Munseongsa), the sarangchae (men's quarters), Eojaegak Pavilion, Yulgok Memorial Hall, and Gangneung Municipal Museum. Since 1961, the city of Gangneung has held a memorial ceremony at Yulgok Memorial Hall from October 25 to 26.

Eomjine kkomakjip is renowned for its cockle salad bibimbap. The dish is served with a plentiful portion of fresh cockles, and the rice mixed with savory seasoning is excellent. Trying out the oijingeo sundae (squid sundae) is a recommendation; the dish, celebrated as Gangneung specialty, is steamed squid stuffed with vegetables and minced meat. Ojukheon House, a Treasure, is an important house which shows the lifestyle and architectual style of the early Joseon dynasty. It is one of the oldest preserved Korean houses. Yulgok Yi-I, one of Korea's most noted scholars, was born here to Sin Saimdang. In rememberance of his birth, the Yulgok Festival is held annually at Ojukheon. There are many traditional materials and regional remains which are displayed in the private museum. A painting of Yulgok is hanging in Munseongsa (the ancestral shrine of Yulgok). More artwork by the Yulgok family are on display in the Yulgok Memorial Hall. In addition, various Buddhist artwork, ceramics, pictures and common living appliances are on display in the Folk Tradition Hall, History Culture Hall, and the outdoor exhibition area.

Gangneung Bau-gil Road is a 150-kilometer walking trail comprised of 10 courses including mountain ranges and coastal sections, including Baekdudaegan, Gyeongpo, and Jeongdongjin. “Bau” means “rock” in the Gangwon-do dialect. When the people of Gangwon-do refer to Gangwon-do in a friendly way, they call it “Gamjabau.” Like the name, Gangneung Bau-gil features human-friendly trekking courses through beautiful nature. By traveling on foot, people can enjoy the tranquil scene and the scent of pine trees from the forest that makes up almost 70% of the routes.

This 16 kilometer-long route along the coast includes tourist attractions such as Sacheonjin-ri Coastal Park, Gyeongpo Beach, Gyeongpo Lake, Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park, and Namhangjin Beach. Collect shells near the beach, enjoy the view from the deck, and take a leisurely stroll on Korea's longest, most lush pine grove path. The lakeside road in Gyeongpo and the Chodang Solbat-gil (pine grove road) at Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park make this a beloved trekking attraction.
