Yongchugyegok Valley (용추계곡)

Located in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, this picturesque valley takes its source from the 900-meter high Kalbongsan Mountain, winding around Ongnyeobong Peak. Stretching over 24 km, it is home to nine remarkable sights, earning it the nicknames "Nine Okgye Valleys" and "Nine Yongchu Valleys." Blanketed by pine nut forests, the valley’s clear waters flow past rocky walls and ridges, forming natural pools along its course. A notable highlight is the 5-meter tall Yongchupokpo Falls about 6 kilometers upstream, accompanied by a legend of a dragon’s ascent to heaven; a deep groove in the adjacent sloping rock is believed to be the dragon’s resting spot. Flanked by Yumyeongsan, Jungmisan, and Eobisan Mountains, the valley offers an excellent short hiking route for a half-day excursion.

Petite France is a French cultural village set in the Korean countryside. Designed with the theme concept, "flowers, stars, and the Little Prince," the village offers experience programs, training facilities, and accommodations. Additional attractions within the village include a memorial hall dedicated to Saint-Exupery, the author of the celebrated French novel, Le Petit Prince (1943); Orgel House where a 200-year-old music box plays a sweet melody; a French housing exhibition; a gallery displaying sculptures and paintings of le coq gaulois (the Gallic rooster), the national symbol of France; and many other galleries and shops to experience French culture. The Gangchon Resort, as one of Chuncheon’s major resorts, stretches along the Bukhangang River and the Gangchoncheon Stream. It offers splendid scenery and many neighboring tourist attractions, such as Gugok Falls, Deungseon Falls, and Samaksan Mountain. It has excellent accessibility of public transportation, many theme park facilities, and accommodation facilities, so it has been a popular location for a young people’s membership trip from the 1970s to the 1990s. However, along with the opening of the double-track railway on the Gyeongchun Line in 2010, the Gangchon Station building was relocated and consequently, the number of visitors has decreased and the local business experienced depression. Therefore, there has been a campaign to revitalize Gangchon. Near the former Gangchon Station, the large sculpture “Ddo-ori Gangchon” has been installed, and the reduced-size model of the Deungseongyo Bridge (suspension bridge), which was a famous tourist attraction in the past, has been reproduced. In particular, “Ddo-ori Gangchon,” which is a popular photo zone, was built by embodying the Scaly-side Merganser (Mergus squamatus, Natural Monument No. 448), which come the area of Gangchon in winter. Additionally, the Deungseongyo Bridge, which was Korea’s first suspension bridge, but demolished in 1985, was reproduced as a tourist pedestrian bridge with a length of 58 m. Furthermore, Gangchon Land, which is a well-known theme park, and the activity of four-wheel motorcycle riding along the riverside, are also major tourist attractions in Gangchon.

Cheongpyeong Lake (청평호반)

Cheongpyeong Lake is an artificial lake that was formed with the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in the Bukhangang River. Surrounding mountains and lake landscapes blend together harmoniously creating breathtaking views and is fast becoming a choice destination in Korea.

Near Cheongpyeong Lake there is an amusement park as well as numerous summer homes. On the nearby lake, one can enjoy water skiing and a host of other recreations. In addition, accommodation is also available making this destination a famous vacation spot all-year-round. Around Cheongpyeong Lake, there are a total of 30 boating areas for water skiing, motor boats, jet skis, banana boats, and various other water activities.
