The National Hangeul Museum was established to preserve, spread, and develop the Korean alphabet, Hangeul. The museum showcases the history and value of Korean orthography, Korean’s most-valued cultural asset, through exhibitions, activities, and education. Occupying over 11,322 ㎡, the museum has one basement level and three ground levels, along with an outdoor grass field and rest area perfect for cultural events, exhibits, and education.

The museum is comprised of the Hangeul library on the first floor, a permanent exhibition hall, ㅎ Café, and cultural product shop on the second floor, and a planned exhibition hall and Hangeul playground for children and foreigners on the third floor.

Songwol Naengmyeon (송월냉면)

Songwol Naengmyeon is a cold noodle restaurant passed down for two generations, from 1988 to the present. It is a restaurant specializing in naengmyeon, or cold buckwheat noodles. It has three simple menu items: yeolmu naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles with young summer radish kimchi), mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), and bibim naengmyeon (spicy buckwheat noodles). Yeolmu is the stem of young radish and is used as an ingredient in kimchi, one of the traditional Korean fermented foods, as well as salads, naengmyeon, and bibimbap. Harvest usually begins in early summer, so it can often be found on dinner tables in the summer. The combination of naengmyeon with ice, young radish, and cool dongchimi (radish water kimchi) creates a wholesome and refreshing taste. This restaurant is also popular among locals and visitors may have to wait in line during peak hours, but manages their table turnover in an organized fashion so their customers in queue won’t have to wait for too long.

Gyeongnidan Street refers to the 937-meter-long road from the main gate of MND Financial Management Corps to Grand Hyatt Seoul as well as all of the nearby streets and alleys. It is called Gyeongnidan Street because the Korean army's central finance corps, or Gyeongnidan in Korean, used to be located here, and has gained fame for presenting a different vibe than that of Itaewon despite being part of Itaewon-dong. Gyeongnidan Street is an area of culture and youth where people are able to enjoy diverse and special cuisine and dishes at unique restaurants and cafes. Mabongrim Halmeonijip specializes in instant tteokbokki. The spicy and flavorful tteokbokki with gochujang sauce is their signature dish. It is served in a hot pot, it can be customized with rice cakes, fish cakes, extra ramyeon noodles, mandu, and other various ingredients. The restaurant is so famous that it is said to be the original restaurant of tteokbokki, and has been featured in several TV programs.

Jangchung Gymnasium (장충체육관)

Jangchung Gymnasium is Korea's first domed gymnasium and opened in 1963. It was renovated in 2015 to become what it is today. It is famous for hosting the Korean Professional Volleyball League during the winter months. The gymnasium also boasts a variety of athletic competitions, cultural performances, and events. The National Theater of Korea opened in 1950 as the first national theater in Asia. It is the only production theater that takes traditional arts to recreate them as contemporary art. Sindang-dong Tteokbokki Town (신당동떡볶이골목)

Sindang-dongTteokbokki Town started in the late '70s, although the alley did not become famous until the '80s. At that time, each restaurant had its own DJ booth, with the image of the "cool DJ" who played the music becoming a symbol of Sindang-dong Tteokbokki Town. In addition, this period also marked the prime time of high school baseball where students would crowd the streets on days when Duksoo Commercial High School and Sunrin Commercial High School (now Sunrin Internet High School) played against one another. Although these high school students have aged, they continue to visit the area, reliving their youth and continuing to indulge in the specialty tteokbokki.

However, some claim the history of this alley began in the 1950s. The owner of Mabongnim Halmeoni Tteokbokki restaurant says tteokbokki was being sold as early as 1953 as the area used to be home to Donga Theater and she sold tteokbokki, corn and potatoes to those visiting the theater. At first, tteokbokki was simply made with gochujang (red chili paste) but as time went by, cooks decided the dish could be more than just a snack. By adding ingredients like eggs, cellophane noodles, fish cakes, instant noodles and more recently squid, prawn and cheese, tteokbokki can be made more delicious and turns this beloved snack into a full meal.

Tteokbokki is a typical Korean street food, consisting of rice cakes made with flour or rice flour and stir-fried in red chili paste. The rice cakes are simmered in a broth with seasonings, along with fish cakes, vegetables, boiled eggs, mandu, and other ingredients. The best thing is that the dish can be customized with various ingredients such as cheese, ramyeon noodles, chewy noodles, and ham. Leftover broth can be fried with rice for a satisfying meal.
