Yangbangsan Paragliding Site is situated 664 meters above sea level at the top of Yangbangsan Mountain. Upon arrival at the site, one can get a panoramic view of Danyang, including the meandering Namhangang River. While serving as the main venue for major gliding sports competitions, the site is also frequented by tourists and extreme sports enthusiasts who want to experience hang gliding and paragliding.

Located inside Sobaeksan National Park, the Sobaeksan National Park Nature Center specializes in ecological experiences and environmental education. The center operates various programs by leveraging the superb ecological system of the Sobaeksan Mountain area. Programs include Sobaeksan Mountain climbing and ginseng experiences for physical health; forest meditation for mental health; and wellness programs with a focus on visiting world heritage sites related to Buddhist culture, for social well-being. Other programs include seasonal ecotourism programs (short-term programs); environmental education for future generations; and cooking classes using local specialties to lead the way for ecological well-being. Additionally, the center has an auditorium & classrooms(for education, training or conferences), and a cafeteria. Individuals and group visitors can use the facilities. Nearby tourist destinations include the Red Fox Eco Park, where visitors can observe first-class endangered wild animals; and historical and cultural sites, such as Buseoksa Temple and Sosuseowon Confucian Academy, which were designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (소백산천문대)

Located within the Sobaeksan National Park, the Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO) was the first astronomy observatory in Korea to install a modern telescope. SOAO is in a great location to observe the stars because it is located on the highest point of southern Korea and far away from the light pollution of cities. To enter the observatory as a private visitor, one must climb the mountain from Jungnyeong Pass or Huibangsa Temple.

The Dodamsambong Peaks consist of three distinctive stone pillars - Janggunbong, Cheobong, and Cheopbong Peaks - that rise majestically from the Namhangang River. Dodamsambong Peaks refer to a trio of rocks that jut as islands in the upper Namhangang River. The trio is often considered one of the most beautiful tourist sites in Danyang. Indeed, many prominent characters from Korean history have sung its praise. Because it is located in the middle of the river, it can be seen from a distance, but a motorboat service allows visitors to get closer to the peaks. The ride takes about 10 minutes.

Jangneung Boribapjip is known for its boribap (steamed barley rice). Here, boribap is served in the style of bibimbap, accompanied by potatoes, a variety of vegetables, and a red chili paste seasoning. The inclusion of potatoes in the boribap preparation enriches its flavor. Additionally, the mukchae (chilled acorn jelly soup) offered by the restaurant is distinctive for its unique taste, achieved with perilla oil and seasoning. The restaurant also sells a range of wild and medicinal vegetables, freshly harvested from the surrounding areas.

Byeolmaro Observatory (별마로천문대)

Byeolmaro is a public astronomical observatory built on the peak of Bongnaesan Mountain (alt. 799.8 m) in Yeongwol. The term "Byeolmaro" combines the words byeol (star), ma (peak) and ro (peaceful). Together, they collectively represent the wish to view stars in a clean and peaceful environment. The observatory has a variety of telescopes, including one with a diameter of 80 centimeters. The observatory also has accommodation facilities, audio & visual rooms, and a lecture hall, making it suitable for educational programs.

Yeongwol Jangneung Royal Tomb [UNESCO World Heritage] (영월 장릉(단종) [유네스코 세계유산])

This site is the tomb of King Danjong (1441-1457), the sixth king of the Joseon dynasty. Unlike typical royal tombs, it is relatively modest and smaller in size. King Danjong's story is tragic one, as he was dethroned by his uncle, who later ascended to the throne as King Sejo of Joseon. Following his usurpation, King Danjong was exiled to Yeongwol, where he was ultimately executed. The site includes a tomb keeper's house and the Danjong History Hall. Additionally, a memorial service commemorating King Danjong is reenacted annually in April.

Ohak Sikdang (오학식당)

Ohak Sikdang is famous for its mukbap (chilled acorn jelly and rice soup), which is made using acorns and mushrooms. Mukbap (chilled acorn jelly and rice soup) is made by topping rice with long and thin slices of acorn jelly, sauce, vegetables, kimchi, and cold soup. Ohak Sikdang’s signature menus are mukbap jeongsik (chilled acorn jelly and rice soup set menu) and baekban (set menu). The side dishes here are quite good as well. Other menus include sundubu (soft bean curd jjigae), suyuk (boiled pork slices), and dubu jeongol (bean curd hot pot).
